New Jersey: A video has emerged from aboard a storm-whipped cruise ship, sending chills down the spine.

The footage was captured by Stephen J Burke, who was a passenger on Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas ship, which began its voyage from New Jersey to Port Canaveral in Florida and the Bahamas in February 2016. The weather, however, forced it to turn around and return to New Jersey.

The ship had 4,500 passengers and 1,600 crew members.

The terrifying video shows Burke looking out of the window as 30-foot waves crash into the ship during the hurricane force storm.

In the video, Burke is heard saying: “We're just staying in one place, hoping not to die.”

Watch the video:

The National Weather Services Ocean Prediction Center had issued an alert four days prior to the cruise, but Royal Caribbean said the weather was not predicted.
