AAP thought running government is child`s play: Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi: Launching a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday accused it of shying away from Delhi as it thought that running a government was a "child`s play".
Targeting Kejriwal, whose party was mainly responsible for the rout of Congress in Delhi polls last December, she said, "Some people believed that running government was a child`s play. You have seen how they have run away from Delhi."
The Congress President was speaking in a rally at the Karol Bagh area in the national capital where she attacked BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and AAP`s Kejriwal in the same breath.
The move to take on AAP was obvious as the party had eaten up into the majority of Congress vote bank in the last assembly elections in Delhi where the ruling party was left with just eight seats in the 70-member assembly with its Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit routed by more than 25,000 votes in the New Delhi seat.
Although Kejriwal went on to become Chief Minister with outside support from Congress, he resigned on February 14 after a 49-day stint at the helm.
In all the seven seats in the national capital, there is a three-cornered contest between Congress, BJP and AAP where elections are slated to be held on April 10.
AAP has fielded Jarnail Singh from West Delhi and Devindra Sehrawat from South Delhi where Congress candidates are sitting MPs Mahabal Mishra and Ramesh Kumar respectively.
Union minister Kapil Sibal will also get a tough fight at Chandni Chowk constituency with BJP fielding its Delhi unit chief Harsh Vardhan and AAP nominating
Ajay Maken will also have to get past not just BJP`s Meenakshi Lekhi but AAP`s another journalist-turned-politician Ashish Khetan, founder of investigative website Gulail.Com.
In East Delhi constituency, Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, will face challenge from AAP`s Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and BJP`s Mahesh Girri.
Congress has fielded Tirath from Northwest constituency which she had won in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha polls. BJP has fielded Dalit leader Udit Raj from the constituency. AAP has fielded Mangolpuri MLA Rakhi Birla from the seat.
J P Agarwal, a four-time MP, who has been renominated from North East Delhi constituency is up against BJP`s popular Bhojpuri singer-actor Manoj Tiwari from the seat while AAP has given ticket to Anand Kumar.
