Rae Bareli: Congress president Sonia Gandhi`s daughter, Priyanka, hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday over the issue of her husband Robert Vadra`s land deals, saying that there was nothing new in what the main Opposition was saying.
An aggressive Priyanka also said that the BJP were running around like `agitated rats`.
Talking to reporters after addressing a public meeting here she said, “Let them do what they want. I am not scared of them. I am not scared of anything,” adding, “They are acting like agitated rats. I knew they would resort to this during elections.”
Priyanka also said that she would continue to speak against BJP`s negative politics.
In one of the sharpest attack ever on the Gandhi family, the BJP today accused Robert Vadra of indulging in fraudulent and unscrupulous land deals. They also released a documentary on his deals that allegedly helped him build a Rs 300 crore empire.
Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad while addressing a press conference in the national capital said that Vadra`s land deals had the blessings of Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi. He also said that if an investigation was carried out, there would be multiple criminal cases as far as Vadra was concerned.
The BJP accused the Congress of shielding him despite the violation of law. At the same time the main Opposition has also sought a reply from the Sonia and Rahul over the matter.
"The BJP would like to seek answers from Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. This would not have been possible without their patronage,” Prasad said.
The 2014 General Elections has seen bitter and acrimonious exchange of words between the Congress and the BJP. BJP`s PM candidate Narendra Modi has been relentless in his attack on the Congress-led UPA government over corruption and mis-governance. He has also been taking on Robert Vadra for amassing more than Rs 300 crores in a short span of time.
On the other hand the Congress has been attacking Modi on his `Gujarat model` of development and has accused the Gujarat CM of being dictatorial and a polarising figure. Rahul Gandhi also raked up the issue of Modi`s marital status at a rally.
Meanwhile, Priyanka who hit the campaign trail only recently and is concentrating only in Amethi and Rae Bareli, has also been lashing out at the BJP and Modi for indulging in divisive politics. She also raised the issue of `snoopgate` at a recent public meeting after which Rahul too took it up.
Moreover, they have accused Modi of having gifted land to the Adani group in Gujarat at a minimal price.
The Congress is battling a perception battle and ten years of anti-incumbency with opinion polls suggesting that they may end up with their lowest ever tally. On the other hand the BJP is hoping to ride on the so-called `Modi wave` and come back to power after a decade.
The counting of votes is scheduled for May 16.
