Lucknow: BJP on Friday moved the Election Commission asking it to debar SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav from contesting elections for his rape remark.

"He should be debarred from contesting elections for his statement, which was against women. This cannot be pardoned. We will submit a memorandum in this regard to UP Chief Electoral Officer," BJP state president Lakshmikant Bajpai said.

Bajpai, who appealed to women to come out in maximum numbers to vote against SP, said the EC should take "congnisance of the statement and debar him."

Meanwhile, BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya in Mainpuri said Mulayam`s remark would "promote rapists" and clouds of fear would shroud women community.
