Varanasi: After Aam Aadmi Party accused BJP of being behind attacks on Arvind Kejriwal, BJP on Friday hit back, saying politics in India cannot be fought with theatrics and offered security for the AAP leader.
"Politics in India is not a film script and real issues of India will not be solved by theatrics," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told on AAP`s accusations about BJP being behind protests against Kejriwal.
Another senior BJP leader Sunil Oza, a former MLA from Gujarat, said people of Varanasi would never indulge in activities like throwing eggs on anyone.
"If Kejriwal is worried about his security, we can provide that through our karyakartas (workers)," Oza said.
Kejriwal, who is fighting Lok Sabha polls from here against Modi, was gheraoed by a huge crowd of 500-700 people last night and police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd and whisk away the AAP leader.
He faced further protests today, after which AAP accused BJP of being behind these protests and has also sought action by the Election Commission.
BJP has however distanced itself from any such protests and said that it was not at all worried about Kejriwal in these elections, as he was a "mere distraction".
Oza said BJP has been repeatedly appealing to the people of the city to restrain themselves and if Kejriwal is not being welcomed by people here spontaneously, he should seek police protection.
"We are open to providing him our own workers to help him with his security, if he desires so," the leader said.
Kohli said that if Kejriwal is facing spontaneous
opposition, he should reflect that he has not got any solution to offer to the people of India and therefore people were protesting against him.
"He only knows politics of accusations and anarchy. He is driven by conspiracy theories. When Jarnail Singh slapped an elder political leader Sharad Pawar, Kejriwal saw that as an outcome of public anger against price rise.
"He went a step further and rewarded Singh by making him an AAP Lok Sabha candidate from West Delhi," he said.
"When he did not see any conspiracies then, why is he seeing conspiracies now," Kohli asked.
He said the 2014 election would be fought on issues of development and people`s anger against the Congress-led UPA government for failing to prevent price rise, corruption, unemployment, farmers` distress and women`s security.
"Neither Kejriwal nor his accusations are any issues. They are mere distractions. Modi is focussing on real issues and has a proven track record of governance. He is a symbol of hope, decisive leadership and good governance and that is being recognised by the people of Varanasi and entire India," he said.
