New Delhi: Rejecting allegations by his opponents that Bharatiya Janata Party`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has become bigger than the party, Prahlad Modi, the younger brother of the Gujarat chief minister, defended him by quoting the example of Lord Buddha who left his wife and children for the sake of his subjects. On Monday, while defending his elder brother over the wife issue, Prahlad Modi said, “The Lord Buddha had also married. Even after his marriage, Buddha had left his wife and child, nobody had then asked him why he left his family and didn`t give rights to his wife. Why are these questions being asked to Modi." Prahlad was addressing reporters at Pratap Vihar in Ghaziabad. Modi`s wife Jashodaben, who has so far led a solitary life after being abandoned by her husband, has disappeared ever since the Gujarat CM accepted for the first time that he is married. Media reports claimed that Jashodaben Modi, who retired as a school teacher, had left on a `char dham` pilgrimage with a congregation of 40 women. Jashodaben has vanished from the scene after spotlight turned back on her when the Election Commission displayed Narendra Modi`s nomination form in Vadodara, Gujarat, which revealed her name as his wife. "Children are children and parents are parents. BJP is like parents and Narendra bhai is like their child. For us, party is first and then Narendra bhai. Whatever he is today, it is because of the BJP," Prahlad added. Further speaking on the Modi wave across the country, he said, "Everybody knows that at present, there is a Modi wave across India. There is no doubt that Modi`s wave is everywhere". "The people of Vododara and Varanasi are with Narendra bhai and they would surely make him win with a big margin. The people of Varanasi have already decided that this time it is for the BJP and will send Narendra bhai to the Parliament as a soldier.” Slamming Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, his CM son and brothers for getting huge security cover, Modi`s brother said: "I think that when a person is doing wrong, his relatives need security cover. “Narendra bhai has been working for the welfare of people in Gujarat for the last 12 years, so he (Modi) didn`t do anything wrong during his tenure, so I don`t need any security cover." Recently, in a personal attack on Modi, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi demanded the Bharat Ratna for Jashodaben, calling her `a symbol of sacrifice and pain`. "In the next 10 days, I am going to write recommending Jashodaben for the `Bharat Ratna`. I must salute her a hundred times. She is a symbol of great Indian womanhood and a great lady," Gogoi said in a press conference. With agency inputs
