Congress moves EC against RSS, Ramdev's 'campaigning' for BJP

New Delhi: Alleging violation of poll code, Congress today moved the Election Commission against RSS and Ramdev who according to the party were campaigning for BJP, and demanded that instructions be issued across the country to check the use of religion for seeking votes.

Congress also demanded that the expenditure incurred by such social organisations working for BJP candidates be included in the expenditure account of the respective candidates.

It also demanded the setting up of surveillance teams to keep a watch on all such social organisations who were campaigning for BJP candidates.

In a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath and Election Commissioners H S Brahma and S N A Zaidi, AICC Secretary and head of its legal cell K C Mittal handed over a memorandum and demanded action against the RSS and yogaguru.

"Instructions be issued to poll officials that activities on use of religion be stopped and officers act against them sternly," Mittal told the EC.

He said any organisation or group or institution or even an individual should not indulge in political activities nor can they use religion for campaigning and action should be taken against them. Surveillance teams be also set up at the ground level to monitor the activities of such organisations, he said.
