Panaji: Making Narendra Modi prime minister would make the BJP`s elected members of parliament irrelevant and impotent, the NCP said Thursday.
Speaking to reporters here, vice president of the Nationalist Congress Party in Goa Trajano D`Mello said imposition of a prime minister on MPs was the worst form of dictatorship in a democracy.
"If Modi is foisted on the elected members of parliament of the BJP it makes them both impotent and irrelevant," D`Mello said.
According to parliamentary convention MPs of the ruling party formally elect the leader of the House. "Foisting of a leader on MPs is an insult to democracy. It is nothing short of dictatorship," he said.
