Mulayam Singh Yadav is fittest person to be PM: Akhilesh

Claiming that Third Front will form the next government at the Centre, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said his father and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav "is the fittest person to be PM".

Mainpuri/Agra: Claiming that the Third Front will form the next government at the Centre, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said his father and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav "is the fittest person to be the Prime Minister".

Addressing an election rally at Fatehabad, about 25 km from Agra in western UP, Akhilesh said, "Netaji (Mulayam) has a great deal of experience. He has been chief minister of the state and the defence minister of the country and is the fittest person to be the Prime Minister."

Akhilesh claimed that his party was ahead after the first two phases of polling in the state and would maintain the lead in future.

Earlier, addressing a rally, along with actor-turned- party MP Jaya Bachchan, in Mainpuri from where senior Yadav is contesting the elections, Akhilesh said, "The Third Front will form the government at the Centre and SP will be the largest party in it... Soon more industries will be set up in Mainpuri."
The UP Chief Minister also charged BSP supremo Mayawati with befooling people by saying no development work was done during SP regime in the state.

Within two years of coming to power, the SP government has done tremendous development work which no other government of any state could do within such a short period, he claimed in Mainpuri.

He also attacked BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said there was no Modi wave in the state.

A few days ago, the SP supremo had said that he would stake claim for the prime minister`s post. He had told PTI that SP would emerge as the largest party in the Third Front government and he would stake his claim.

But, it would be decided by all partners of the front, he had said.
Taking a dig at BJP, Akhilesh said in the Agra rally that
the BJP "has released lions, we have released hyenas -- the difference being that the BJP lions were in cages or can be viewed in safaris".

Yadav said while there was much talk about the Gujarat model of development no one had so far specified what the model was all about.

"If the model was so good why was the party playing communal politics?" he asked.

Training his gun on BSP chief Mayawati, Akhilesh said, "She had ruled the state... And only installed statues of herself."

Recounting SP`s achievements, he claimed his government had waived farmers` loans and has worked in the field of health care to provide free medial aid to people.

He said his party had done a lot for the people by introducing several schemes in its two-year tenure and would introduce more public welfare schemes in the remaining three years. One of these would be the Samajwadi Pension Yojna, he said.

He said posts for 500 more doctors in medical colleges in the state had been created and 17,000 `shiksha mitras` were being appointed.

The Chief Minister also addressed a rally at Etmadpur town, 20km east of Agra.
