New Delhi: Bollywood actress and filmmaker Nandita Das on Thursday expressed her apprehension regarding the future of minorities if Bharatiya Janata Party`s PM-candidate Narendra Modi emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to a leading daily, Das reflected upon the instances during National Democratic Alliance`s (NDA) last term in power when `contents of school text books were changed` to suit the right-leaning government.

Nandita Das felt that a Modi government might undermine institutions.

She added that fear would penetrate into the minds of minorities and they would feel unsafe.

The `Firaq` filmmaker`s anti-Modi leanings have been well-known. Earlier, Bollywood artistes including Nandita Das and a group of writers and filmmakers like Anjum Rajabali, Shubha Mudgal, Mahesh Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj and Govind Nihalani had appealed urging people to vote for the `secular` party that was most likely to win in their constituency.

The appeal read: "The need of the hour is to protect our country`s secular foundation. Undoubtedly, corruption and governance are important issues, but we will have to vigilantly work out ways of holding our government accountable to that. However, one thing is clear: India`s secular character is not negotiable! Not now, not ever.”

"As Indian citizens who love our motherland, we appeal to you to vote for the secular party, which is most likely to win in your constituency," they said.
