Naxals fire on polling party in Chhattisgarh`s Rajnandgaon

An exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the Naxals in the insurgency-hit Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency of Chhattisgarh where polling was held today. No causalities were reported.

"The incident took place under Khadgaon police station limits of Rajnandgaon district while a polling party escorted by joint team of ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) and the district police force was returning after polling in Kamkasur region," a senior police official said.

After the polling concluded at 3 pm in the Mohla- Manpur assembly segment of Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency, the polling party escorted by security personnel was heading back when Naxal opened fire from a distance.
When security forces launched a retaliatory attack, they fled, he said. The security forces and polling party were safely evacuated from the spot, he said.
