"Congress tried to appease Sikhs and wash away the stains of the 1984 riots by according Manmohan Singh the top post," former national minority commission chairman Tarlochan Singh said while addressing a press conference here.
"The prime minister had announced in Parliament an aid of Rs 750 crore to the 1984 riots victims and government jobs to their kin, but that did not happen," he said.

He alleged that Manmohan Singh is the "weakest prime minister the country has seen so far as he could not take decisions on his own."
Former chairman of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Mangement Committee Avatar Singh said the party was backing BJP as it believed that the Sikh community would be benefited only if Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister.

He said the "Sikh voters will answer Congress by voting BJP to power."
Singh also criticised Punjab`s former chief minister Amarinder Singh for giving a clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in 1984 riots case.
