Anti-mining activist attacked in Goa

A tribal youth, one of the activists of anti-mining Cauvrem Adivasi Bachao Samiti (CABS), was attacked by unknown persons at Verna, 20 kms from here.

Panaji: A tribal youth, one of the activists
of anti-mining Cauvrem Adivasi Bachao Samiti (CABS), was
attacked by unknown persons at Verna, 20 kms from here, onj Thursday.

Nilesh Gaonkar, 24, was beaten up when he was on his way
to work at Verna Industrial estate, where he works as an
engineer.

He said that unknown men hit him on the back with a heavy
object.
Nilesh was immediately shifted to Hospicio Hospital in
Margao, where he is undergoing treatment.

CABS has been opposing the illegal mining at Cauvrem
village, and has barred entry to trucks for the last one
month.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Gaonkar, said
police had received Nilesh`s complaint, and probe was on.
