A constable attached to Goa Crime Branch, who consumed poison on duty last week, has been hospitalized in a critical condition, police said o Tuesday.

Panaji: A constable attached to Goa Crime Branch, who consumed poison on duty last week, has been hospitalized in a critical condition, police said o Tuesday.

Constable Chandru Gawas (33), who was working as a driver, for a senior Crime Branch officer, tried to end his life after alleged harassment by his seniors.

According to police, Special Judicial Magistrate Maria Mascarenhas took his `dying declaration` in which, he reportedly named few senior officers accusing him of harassment.

Panaji police station inspector Ramesh Gaonkar, who is investigating the case, said that nothing can be said at this juncture as the `dying declaration` has been kept under wraps.
"I am yet to know what he has said in the statement before the SJM," Gaonkar said.

Sources close to Gawas family said he was supposed to get married in the first week of July and was upset as his leave
application was rejected.

On Friday, he consumed poison inside Crime branch office at Dona Paula.
Gawas was initially admitted to a private hospital but was shifted to Goa Medical College yesterday after his health deteriorated, Gaonkar said.
