Panaji: A local court on Friday extended by four
days the police custody of former Goa Tourism Minister
Fransisco Mickey Pacheco who is an accused in the death of his
close friend Nadia Torrado.
Allowing the application for extension of remand,
Judicial Magistrate First class (JMFC) also allowed the
accused to attend the forthcoming state assembly session.
Pacheco had sought the court`s permission to attend the
assembly session beginning from July 19.
The 46-year old NCP legislator was remanded to seven days
police custody on July 8 when he was arrested by the Crime
Branch. As the remand period expired today, an application was
moved before the court to extend his police custody.
Pacheco was booked by police on the charge of abetment to
suicide and culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the
case.
Nadia, 28, had allegedly consumed poison on May 15 and
was subsequently admitted to various private hospitals in Goa,
Thane and Chennai. She died on May 30.
Earlier this morning, Justice Nelson Britto of the Bombay
High Court`s Goa bench had recused himself from hearing the
bail petition.
The petition would now be heard by Justice A S Oka on
Monday.
