Dedicate a day for Swachch Bharat: Goa governor

Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has asked the hospitality industry to observe the last Saturday of each month as a `Clean Day` so that the workforce could spend an hour cleaning up the locality and promote cleanliness.

Panaji: Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has asked the hospitality industry to observe the last Saturday of each month as a `Clean Day` so that the workforce could spend an hour cleaning up the locality and promote cleanliness.

In a meet, attended by hospitality industry stakeholders of the coastal state, the governor said the Swachch Bharat mission held a special relevance because Goa was a top tourism destination, an official statement said on Friday.

The governor suggested to observe fourth Saturday of every month as a `Clean Day` where all the staff devote at least one hour for cleanliness in and around the selected areas.

"Organising cleanliness campaigns and competitions; refraining the use of plastics; putting of suitable hoardings; printing and pasting of slogans on vehicles and office stationary items were some of the other measures Sinha put forth to the representatives," the statement said.

"Goa being a tourist destination and the hospitality industry, which has a major stake, can definitely make a lasting impact in making the `Swachcha Goa, Swachcha Bharat` (clean Goa, clean Bharat) a success.

"Employees of every establishment should be taken on board to make it more effective and achievable target," she added.

Goa is one of the top beach tourism destinations in the country and attracts more than three million tourists annually.

Governor Sinha is a Prime Minister Narendra Modi-nominated Swachcha Bharat ambassador.
