Panaji: A Goa Police constable allegedly
involved with drug peddlers, on Friday surrendered before a court
with law enforcers saying his arrest was likely to lead them
to more links in police-drug peddler nexus case.

"The arrest (of Sanjay Parab) will lead us to more
links in this case," police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande told
reporters here.
Parab, the constable who was on the run since first
week of March, today surrendered before a court in Mapusa
town, 10 km from here.

Crime branch immediately placed Parab under arrest and
got seven days police custody by producing him before the
court.

Deshpande said the delay in arresting him was not a
police failure. "Parab had to surrender because he had run
out of avenues and police had pressurised him to give up," the
spokesman said.

Parab is the seventh policeman to be arrested in drug
peddler police nexus case. Besides Parab six other policemen
including Inspector Ashish Shirodkar and police Sub inspector
Punaji Gawas have been arrested under the Narcotics Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A head constable and three
constables have also been nabbed.
The Crime branch is investigating the nexus after
alleged Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala
reportedly confessed to his links with the police.

The investigation by crime branch has revealed that
the policemen were allegedly in close links with two suspected
Israeli drug peddlers ? Atala and David Driham alias Dudu.

Atala`s former girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse had exposed
the entire nexus through her spy cam.

Farmhouse in her interview to agency had said that the
son of a senior politician was visiting Atala`s house in Goa.

Crime branch, which initially failed to get in touch
with Lucky, has now sought permission from the state home
department to travel to Sweden and get her statement.

Lucky has agreed to cooperate with the police but had
refused to come early to Goa. She had said that she can come
in the month of August.
