Panaji: The landing strip at Goa's Dabolim international airport is in a dangerous condition and needs to be repaired as soon as possible, according to outgoing chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

The chief minister was making a case for a second airport in Goa, which he said would also ease off the congestion at the Dabolim, operated by the Indian Navy.

"The airstrip is in dangerous condition and needs urgent repair...it is full of bumps," Parrikar told reporters at his last post cabinet media briefing late Friday.

The Dabolim airport caters to nearly four million passengers annually.

Parrikar is expected to resign from office Saturday, to be sworn-in as union cabinet minister on Sunday, after which he is likely to be offered the defence portfolio.
