Goa blast accused granted bail
A local court on Wednesday granted bail to 2 persons allegedly involved in a conspiracy to execute serial bomb blasts in Goa.
Panaji: A local court on Wednesday granted bail to 2
persons allegedly involved in a conspiracy to execute serial
bomb blasts in Goa.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, granted
conditional bail to Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar who were
arrested on the charge of planting improvised explosive
devices (IEDs) at Sancoale, 20km away from Margao town, as the
investigation agency failed to file a chargesheet against
them, although 180 days had passed since their arrest.
Granting the bail, the judge asked them to furnish a bond
of Rs one lakh each and also to report to police every day
between 9 am to 1 pm.
Two persons were killed in a bomb explosion in Margao on
October 16 last year.
Police`s bomb disposal squad (BDS) had defused two IEDs
Goa police`s special investigation team (SIT) had
arrested both the accused on October 31, 2009, alleging their
involvement in the conspiracy. Two more persons Dhananjay
Ashtekar and Dilip Mangaonkar were also arrested by SIT.
Since the bomb blast investigations pointed out towards
interstate ramifications, the case was handed over to National
Investigation Agency (NIA), in 2009.
Sanatan Sanstha, a right wing Hindu organisation, was
under the police scanner after the blast as all the four
accused arrested are affiliated to this organization which has
its headquarters at Ranmnathi, Goa.
