Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar Wednesday ordered a police probe into allegations made by Congress spokespersons that he and several BJP ministers were involved in drug trade in the state.

"I have asked police to probe the allegations made by Congress leaders," Parsekar told reporters here.

Congress spokespersons Sunil Kawthankar and Agnelo Fernandes Tuesday alleged that Parsekar as well as several other BJP ministers and MLAs from the state`s tourism-oriented coastal constituencies were involved in the drug trade.

Parsekar said the Congress leaders should cooperate with the police inquiry which he has ordered.

"If they have made these allegations, they should have some kind of proof. Let them cooperate with the police inquiry which has been ordered. If they have evidence about ministers involved in drug trade let them tell police about it," Parsekar said.

Goa, one of the country`s top beach tourism destinations, is also known for easy availability of drugs and narcotics substances.

A legislative committee report tabled in the state assembly a year ago indicted a Congress minister as well as top policemen for their alleged links to the drug trade.
