Goa medical college to probe into ragging incident

A three-member committee of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will investigate the ragging incident reported last week in the college hostel.

Panaji: A three-member committee of the Goa
Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will investigate the
ragging incident reported last week in the college hostel.

"We will have a committee of three senior professors who
will probe the incident and report back to the anti-ragging
committee," Dean of GMCH, Dr V S Jindal, told PTI.

Jindal said the anti-ragging committee will meet soon to
decide the members of the committee.

The incident came to the light when a faculty member
allegedly caught red-handed nine senior students asking their
juniors to kneel down and salute them.

All the nine students were arrested and suspended from
the hostel.

"One of the professors who was taking round of the hostel
saw the incident and immediately informed about it to the
Dean," GMCH director S V Naik said.

This is the first ragging incident reported in the state
after the Assembly adopted anti-ragging legislation
recommending stringent penalty for such acts.
