Panaji: Goans and people below 21 years could soon be banned from casinos in Goa under a bill to be tabled in the forthcoming session of the state assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday.

Parrikar was speaking to reporters at the state secretariat after a cabinet meeting.

"I cannot say much about this right now because we will be introducing the bill in the assembly session. What we are looking at is banning entry of youth below the age of 21 years and of local Goans into casinos," Parrikar said.

The Chief Minister said that the move was aimed at checking the problem of local people and youngsters wasting money on gambling.

Goa has six operational offshore casinos floating in the Mandovi river off Panaji, and more than a dozen onshore casinos housed in numerous five-star hotels and resorts located in the state's coastal areas.

The govt should firstly remember that casino industry is employing hundreds of youths. The govt banning Goans into casino will greatly affect those employed youth & their dependents. I can understand putting certain income brackets for Goans entering casino but complete HALT is ridiculous If the govt & my Goans friends thinks that casino is destroying Families & economic Life then what about ``MATKA``, `` lottery`s`` that are there. The crime that prevails in this motherland doesn`t have any correlation with Casino. Bad Habits like drinking & smoking by youth Happens outside casino Also. The State`s revenue comes from mining(which will be no more after some years when no more mines left). Next comes tourism, where casino is a way to boost tourism. THINK GOANS.....THINK BROADLY & WISELY...
