Illegal mining: Temporary relief for Goa NCP leade

A Sessions Court here on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail to NCP`s national secretary Jitendra Deshprabhu in connection with an illegal mining case.

Panaji: A Sessions Court here on Monday granted
interim anticipatory bail to NCP`s national secretary Jitendra
Deshprabhu in connection with an illegal mining case.

The interim bail would be in effect till tomorrow. The
court today heard his anticipatory bail application.

As the arguments remained inconclusive and would continue
tomorrow, the Judge ordered Crime Branch not to arrest
Deshprabhu till then.

Deshprabhu is accused of a multi-crore illegal mining
scam at the property owned by him in Pernem taluka.

Crime Branch has already arrested Gitesh Naik, a
contractor, who worked for Deshprabhu.

State Mines and Geology department had found that mining
of iron ore was going on, on a big scale at the land owned by
Deshprabhu, without valid permits.

The department has already imposed fine of Rs 1.7 crore
on him.
