Panaji: A lady constable and her colleague did nothing when a fellow police constable sexually assaulted a victim of the flesh trade, authorities here have found out.
The 21-year-old girl, who had escaped from a prostitution racket, was allegedly forced to perform oral sex by constable Vishwavijay Digambar Parab of Mapusa police station near here on August 11.
Parab was later suspended from service, and arrested.
The high-powered committee headed by District Collector -- which looks into rehabilitation of victims of flesh trade -- has now urged Goa State Women's Commission (GSWC) to conduct inquiry into the role of two other constables who were present. Committee members Auda Viegas and Arun Pandey have written to GSWC in this regard.
"The girl was molested in the police jeep, right in front of this lady constable, and later outside the police lock-up," the letter says.
According to the girl, she went to Mapusa police station after running away from a prostitution hub. However, she was sexually assaulted and illegally detained.
She had been brought to Goa with the promise of a job in Casino, but was forced into flesh-trade.
Committee members have pointed out that the victim was kept in the police station for almost 40 hours, and later arrested under Immoral Trafficking Act, for no valid reason.
