Panaji: The Margao blast case probe has led the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to search underwaters of Zuari river for possibility of disposing off the explosives.
A senior police officer confirmed that the SIT, along with Marine Police and professional divers, searched few places in Zuari river, which runs between the town of Vasco and Ponda, on Tuesday and operation is likely to continue even today.
Sancoale, a village near Vasco, was saved from witnessing a major explosion on Diwali eve when the unexploded devices were diffused on time by the Bomb Disposal Squad.
Two accused, arrested in connection with attempt to carry out the blast, were residing in Ponda town.
Police officials said that there is a possibility that these accused might have tried to dispose off the explosives by throwing them in the Zuari river waters.
SIT had, a week back, picked up a youth from Borim village located on Zuari river near Ponda town for investigation in the blast case.
Police team had also found seven gellatin sticks at Rasai village, which falls on the highway connecting Vasco to Ponda.
However, Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande, when contacted, refused to comment on the searches.
"I will neither confirm nor deny anything right now. At present, the investigations are on," he said.
Margao blast on October 16 had left two people -- Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik -- dead.
Both were apparently carrying the explosives when it triggered accidently.
Two more persons, Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar, have been arrested by the police.
All the four are linked to Sanatan Sanstha, a right wing Hindu organisation, which operates from its ashram at Ramnathi in Ponda town.
