Pacheco giving evasive answers, says police

Former Goa Tourism Minister Fransisco Mickey Pacheco, accused in the death of his close friend Nadia Torrado, is giving evasive replies contrary to the documents available with the crime branch.

Panaji: Former Goa Tourism Minister
Fransisco Mickey Pacheco, accused in the death of his close
friend Nadia Torrado, is giving evasive replies contrary to
the documents available with the crime branch, police said
today.

"He gives evasive answers. Whatever answers he gave
contradict with the documents," public prosecutor Sarojini
Sardinha said while opposing the bail plea filed by Pacheco in
the Sessions Court.

The 46-year old NCP leader, who was arrested on July 8 by
the Crime Branch in connection with Nadia`s death, has pleaded for bail stating that he is unwell.

The public prosecutor said police did not have sufficient
time to interrogate Pacheco as he was often taken out for
medical treatment or the investigating officer had to attend
the court in connection with petitions related to the case.
She said police have recovered five mobiles and three sim
cards used by him during the fortnight before Nadia allegedly
consumed poison on May 15.

"The mobiles were submitted to the crime branch by the
accused`s wife," Sardinha said.

Meanwhile, Pacheco`s lawyer Surendra Desai said his
client, who was being interrogated for the last four days has
replied to all the queries of the investigating agency.

"There is no question of Pacheco running away as there is
nothing against him in the case. He has been a reputed
politician in the state," he added.
