New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Laxmikant Parsekar on his becoming the chief minister of Goa and expressed confidence that he will take the state to newer heights of progress.

Modi tweeted: "Congratulations to Laxmikant Parsekarji on taking oath as Goa CM. Best wishes to him. I am sure he will take Goa to newer heights of progress."

Parsekar, an old RSS hand who helped build BJP in Goa, was today sworn-in as Chief Minister of the coastal state after he snuffed out competition from his senior and Deputy CM Francis D'Souza to succeed Manohar Parrikar who was plucked for a Union Cabinet berth.
