Panaji: A senior Congressman and veteran
Marathi writer Vishnu Surya Wagh on Sunday joined the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) in Goa, claiming that there were several
other Congressmen eager to join the saffron party.
Wagh filled the primary membership form of BJP at the
party headquarter in Panaji in the presence of BJP Goa chief
Laxmikant Parsekar, Leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar and
Member of Parliament Sripad Naik.
The former Congress General Secretary and spokesman said
that his entry into the party was unconditional and would like
to campaign against the Congress party, which is neck-deep in
corruption and anti-people policies.
"Congress has become insensitive towards the feelings of
the people," he said, adding that there are several other
Congressmen, who will be joining the party in next two months.
Earlier this year, Wagh had joined the campaign for
scrapping state government`s policy of Medium of Instruction
(MOI). The Congress party had refused to allot him any post
during the recent constitution of Pradesh Congress committee
"My MOI stand was in sync with the BJP. Many people
adviced me to support BJP, which is a party aiming to save the
future of Goa," he told reporters after joining the party.
Wagh alleged that Congress should to be blamed for
several issues in the state, including nurturing the illegal
"Congress is fully involved in the illegal mining trade
in the state," Wagh said, refusing to name anyone.
"Everyone knows who are involved," he said.
Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar said that Wagh
joining the party will help the BJP in its election campaign.
"Whoever joins the party is his own strength. Wagh will
help us reach to more people," he said.
