Panaji: In a bid to tide over water crisis faced by Goa's north district, 20 million litres per day (MLD) capacity would be added to its water treatment plant.

Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao today said 20 MLD water capacity would be added to Assnora water treatment plant by May 25.

"This will solve the water scarcity faced by entire North Goa," Alemao said adding that 15 MLD was the shortage for the entire district.

The minister today said additional 30 MLD would be added to the treatment plant in next four months.

The minister was at the receiving end during the recent Assembly session after Opposition said the water scarcity was a result of private water tankers lobby bribing the government officials.

Later, Alemao had transferred all the officers attached to his department who were allegedly involved in this.

Meanwhile, the PWD has also decided to lay underground cables near water treatment plants to avoid constant tripping of electricity.
