Panaji: A naval sailor, who had received
burnt injuries in the naphtha-ignited fire at Vasco last month, died Monday at Indian Navy`s hospital in Mumbai, officials said.
Naval spokesman Cdr Mahesh Joshi said that S S Das, a
sailor attached to INS Hansa, died while being treated at INHS
Aswini at Mumbai.
With his death, the fire incident has claimed four lives
so far. Earlier three persons, including Das`s wife Swati and
two others, had died in Mumbai.
They were injured, after a pipeline, carrying Naphtha
from Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) to Zuari Industries Limited
(ZIL), a fertiliser manufacturing unit, had accidentally
caught fire on August 19.
The fire erupted in Varunapuri locality, which is
inhabited by the navy officials.
In all, eight people were injured in the fire. Six of
them, who were severely burnt, were shifted to INHS Aswini
after being treated at navy`s Goa facility initially.
