Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said increasing the number of women police personnel would reduce corruption in the force.
"Women are very sensitive towards people's issues. I would say that the number of women in police force should be increased so that corruption is reduced and the bad tag owned by Goa police is removed," he said after launching an independent helpline for senior citizens here today.
Parsekar, who was given guard of honour by a women's platoon of police department, conceded that there are some anti-social elements in the force spoiling its reputation.
"I want to see that women power should rule the department. I was happy to see that the guard of honour was given by the women's platoon," he said while addressing a gathering of senior citizens and police officials.
The helpline launched today is expected to provide assistance to senior citizens in any emergency.
Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg said that beat constables would also be asked to compile a list of senior citizens living in their areas.
If required, senior citizens would also be provided medical help by police control room, he said.
The police will also help them pay their water and electricity bills, if they are living alone, he added.
