Atwal tied 116th after wobbly opening round

Milwaukee: The rust showed and Arjun Atwal will need something special to make the cut after his wobbly opening round of five-under 75 had him at tied 116th in the USD four million US Bank Championship golf tournament here.

Playing only his second PGA Tour event since returning from a long injury lay-off, the Orlando-based Indian going tough at the par-70 Brown Deer Park Golf Course which tested him to the hilt.

The former Asian Tour number one parred the opening hole before a triple bogey greeted him on the par-four second hole.

Atwal bogeyed the sixth to go four-over before finishing the stretch with his first birdie.

His back nine was equally bumpy with the Indian dropping a hat-trick of bogeys before draining his second birdie on the 15th hole.

Greg Chalmers and Jeff Klauk fired identical 64s to share the lead with a quartet hot on their heels from two strokes behind.

Atwal had earlier missed the cut at his comeback event at John Deere Classic.
