Sixth India Golf Festival tees off from Thursday Noida:The sixth edition of the four-day long Toyota Etios India Golf Festival will tee off at the Noida Golf Course here from Thursday.

In a function held here, the organisers -- Rishi Narain Golf Management and Indian Golf Union (IGU) -- on Wednesday declared open the event which will see juniors, ladies, amateurs and corporates vying for honours.

Narain, a former golfer, emphasised that the festival will provide an opportunity to players from all sections to interact with each other.

"The tournament will provide a chance to juniors, ladies, amateurs and corporates to come together," he said.

"We have already recorded more than 500 participants and entries are still filling in," he added.

Chairman of the finance committee of IGU, AKS Chandele said, "Golf as a sport has come a long way and we are looking forward to propagate the sport across the country."

"The average age of Indian golf team has lowered over the years and a younger crop of golfers is coming up well which is a good sign for the game," he added.

When asked about promoting the game across the nation Chandele said a lot has been done but we still need to work forward to make our country a golfing nation.

"We have segmented the whole country into zones and every zone is being looked after by our coaching unit. They try to scout the talent and provide them the platform to grow," he said.
