Ahmedabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Monday told a local court that it would not seek time beyond March 15 for submitting remaining documents related to its final report in the 2002 riots cases.
The statement was made by SIT counsel RS Jamaur before
Magistrate MS Bhatt, who was hearing a couple of applications
seeking access to the SIT report on probe into the complaint
of Zakia Jaffery about conspiracy behind the 2002 Gujarat
riots and alleged role of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and
others.
"There is no question of extension, it (documents will
be submitted on March 15," Jamaur said.
Jamaur also opposed the applications by NGO Jan Sangharsh
Manch (JSM) and an accused in the Gulburg Society riot case,
Ajay Panchal. Court would pronounce order on the two
applications on March 15.
Last week, the court rejected similar application of
Zakia. While JSM has sought that the SIT report be declared a
public document and it should get chance to inspect it,
Panchal wants the report to prepare his defence.
Panchal has also alleged that social activist Teesta
Setalvad has been filing numerous applications in various
courts for her own personal and political interests, which was
delaying the trial.
