8 killed, 1 hurt in car-truck collision in Rajkot

 Eight people, including four women, were killed and one person was injured when their car collided with a speeding truck on Surendranagar-Viramgam highway early this morning.

Rajkot: Eight people, including four women, were killed and one person was injured when their car collided with a speeding truck on Surendranagar-Viramgam highway early this morning.

Nine members of two families were going to a temple in a private car when it collided with the truck at around 6 AM, police said.

"The victims were residents of Rajkot and were going to Ghoghaji Maharaj temple for darshan," Viramgam police sub-inspector J D Zala said.

"They were travelling in a car which collided with the speeding truck coming from opposite direction killing eight persons on the spot," he said.

The deceased were identified as Ashok Lalji, Kalu Gamara, Shailesh Gamara, Labuben Gamara, Pushpa Jetiya, Girish Jetiya, Kanekshwari Jetiya and Vibhaben Jetiya.
One injured person was rushed to a hospital in Ahmedabad.

"A complaint has been lodged against the truck driver and further investigation is on," the SI added.
