Ghaziabad: A major tragedy was averted when the Government Railway Police (GRP) patrolling party found a broken railway track near here and immediately cautioned the driver of the incoming train about it, a GRP official said today.
The incident took place near Vijaynagar area last night when the GRP team on routine vigil found that a portion of the track was broken, GRP inspector Surjan Singh said.
The driver of the Delhi-bound Jansadharan Express was immediately informed, following which he applied emergency brakes to avert any untoward incident, Singh said, adding, all the passengers on-board were reported to be safe.
He ruled out the possibility of sabotage, saying it is a regular phenomenon which happens due to change in weather conditions. The fractured portion of the track was replaced by the railway engineering department and smooth conduct of traffic was restored within an hour, Singh added.
