Vadodara: The seven-day-old dispute
between two mothers-Ramila Chunara and Ramila Damor, whose
newborn babies were swapped due to a mistake of nurse, was
today resolved amicably in the Gujarat government-run SSG
Hospital here.
Ramila Chunara of the city, who refused to accept her
baby girl for the past seven days, today accepted the baby and
expressed her happiness on it. She said, "This dispute was due
to genuine mistake of a nurse of the hospital and now it has
ended on happy note."
Chunara offered sweets to Ramila Damor, a tribal woman
of Limkheda town of neighbouring Dahod District. Damor said,
"I was not aware of giving birth to a baby boy as his birth
took place after operation and I was not conscious. It was the
doctor, who conducted operation to me, informed me that I
give birth to a baby boy."
"Even if I was given birth to a baby girl, I was ready
to accept her on the doctor`s advice," said Damor. As both
the newly born boy and girl were underweight, they were kept
in incubators in the ward of the hospital for four days. Damor
breastfeeded baby girl and Chunara breast feeded the baby boy.
After realising the lapse on the part of a staff
nurse of the hospital, doctor persuaded Chunara to breastfeed
her newly born baby girl and she started breastfeeding her
new born baby girl for the past three days which has given a
hope for amicable resolving of the issue, doctor at the
hospital said.
Earlier, resident medical officer of
the hospital B C Patel said, "Chunara who had refused to take
possession of the baby girl saying that she gave birth to a
boy in the gynaecology ward of the hospital on May 30 last and
had been breastfeeding him for the last four days."
The doctors said that Chunara gave birth to a baby
girl on the same day (30th May), Ramila Damor from Limkheda
town of Dohad district admitted in the same hospital and gave
birth to a baby boy.
