BJP on Sunday suspended its corporator of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for his alleged involvement in "anti-party activities", party's office bearers said.

Vadodara: BJP on Sunday suspended its corporator of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for his alleged involvement in "anti-party activities", party's office bearers said.

"Rajesh Iyre, has been today suspended from primary membership of the party for his involvement to provoke a mob to disrupt an event held at Gotri locality on outskirts of the city about seven days ago," Bahrat Danagar, president of BJP's Vadodara city unit said.

Meanwhile, state BJP president R C Faldu has issued a release saying Iyre has been suspended from the party for his involvement in anti-party activities.

Deputy Mayor of Vadodara, Sunita Shukla, was on April 27 injured after a mob of over a hundred people stormed the function organised by the local civic body near here and hurled stones at the guests apparently to protest lack of basic facilities in their area.

The incident had taken place at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Mukhyamantri Aavas Yojna, a housing scheme meant for the lower income group in the presence of state Finance Minister Saurabh Patel.

The Vadodara city police have arrested seven persons in this regard including one Saddam Rajput.

Rajput had told police that Iyre had prompted the mob to disrupt the meeting, which was attended by Patel and others including city Mayor Bharat Shah.

Since then Iyre has been on the run and police have sent teams to various places to trace him.

Iyre has also filed an anticipatory bail plea before a local court for which hearing is to take place.
