Ahmedabad: BJP`s Bhushan Bhatt and Congress`s Jagat Shukla will slug it out in the bypoll to Khadia assembly constituency on February 14.
The seat fell vacant after the death of state Assembly
Speaker Ashok Bhatt.
BJP has fielded Bhushan, who is the son of the late
Speaker to cash in on the sympathy wave. Senior Bhatt had held
this seat for seven terms.
Bhushan is a municipal councilor from the same area
for the last four terms.
Congress has fielded young leader Jagat Shukla, who
had earlier lost to Ashok Bhatt.
Both the candidates filed their nomination papers
today on the last day of filing of forms.
The notification for the by-elections was issued on
January 21. While the scrutiny of nomination forms would take
place on January 29, the last date for withdrawal of
nominations is January 31.
The polling would be held through EVMs and counting of
votes would take place on February 17.
