New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday dared Narendra Modi to agree to a probe by CBI or SIT into the alleged job scam in Gujarat, accusing him of "looting" money from the state and spending it on public meetings nationwide to realise his Prime Ministerial dream.
"Vibrant Gujarat is a platform for Modi`s corruption. Looting money from the state, he is spending it to realise his Prime Ministerial dreams...Looting money from Gujarat and spend it in public meetings of Modi in the country," party spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil, who was former CLP leader of Gujarat, alleged.
Raising the issue of alleged duping of job aspirants, he alleged that "BJP henchman" Kalyansinh Champawat, arrested on charges of taking money in the case, often shared the dais with Modi and was engaged as "trainer" for BJP and RSS.
The man caught by Gujarat police with lakhs of rupees and currency counting machine allegedly lured youths by promising them a job of `talati` in exchange for Rs 10 lakh rupees from each of them.
The AICC also released photos of Champawat sharing the dais with Modi. Gohil said that if Modi feels that he has nothing to do with this episode, he should recommend that the matter should be probed by CBI or an independent SIT.
Latching on to the alleged scam, Gohil said Modi should answer if there is no unemployment in Gujarat as the Chief Minister keeps claiming and promising jobs to those coming from outside, "Why people are ready to pay bribe of Rs 10 lakh for a job which gets a salary of Rs 5,300 only for five years?"
"Over 12 lakh youths applied for 1500 jobs, which offer a salary of just Rs 5,300 a month. For this post too, BJP agents are at work and charge Rs 10 lakh per job," he said alleging that unemployment particularly among the educated has gone up in Gujarat during Modi`s tenure.
"The number of unemployed post graduates, which was just 8,129 during the Congress rule, has gone up to staggering 52, 538. Gujarat had 2.15 lakh government employees. This should have increased over the years but it came down to 1.74 lakh.
"The number of persons in semi-government jobs has been reduced by 80 thousand during Modi`s rule. Gujarat used to lead in employment generating activities but during Modi rule, small and cottage industry is almost dead ," he said.
Gohil also alleged that Modi had won Gujarat elections by "communalising" the atmosphere as he could not have win on the issue of development saying his claims on this count are nothing more than "lies" and "myth".
