Congress walks out of Gujarat state assembly

The Congress staged a walkout from the state Assembly after the leader of the opposition Shaktisinh Gohil was not allowed to ask a question to Minister of State for Energy.

Gandhinagar: The Congress on Monday staged a
walkout from the state Assembly after the leader of the
opposition Shaktisinh Gohil was not allowed to ask a question
to Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel about alleged
corruption in awarding a solar power project and land to a
London based company.

Patel, however, termed all allegations by Congress as
a blatant lie and denied that the government had awarded any
solar power project or land to any British firm.

"The Government has a transparent solar power policy
as per which any company wanting to set up a solar power plant
has to purchase the land itself", Patel said.

When Gohil stood up to raise query on comments of
Patel with regard to awarding of a 25 MW solar power project
to Eros Energy, London, after permission by the Speaker, he
was not allowed to speak by the BJP MLAs saying that the
legislator has already spoken on the issue.

Gohil and other members of the Congress party staged a
walk out shouting slogans against the government.

They also shouted slogans against Gujarat Chief
Minister Narendra Modi for giving away project worth crores of
rupees to Eros Energy without tendering process.

"There was a big scam in awarding of solar power
project to Eros Energy Company of London by the BJP
government," Gohil told mediapersons after staging a walkout.
