Court notice to SIT on demand for further probe in a riot case
A special court issued a notice to the SIT probing some of the post-Godhra riot cases of 2002, following an application demanding further probe in the Naroda Patiya case of 2002 where 95 persons were killed.
Ahmedabad: A special court today issued
a notice to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing some
of the post-Godhra riot cases of 2002, following an
application demanding further probe in the Naroda Patiya case
of 2002 where 95 persons were killed.
The notice was issued by special Judge Jyotsna Yagnik on
an application by an NGO Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM) who is
representing some of the post-Godhra riot victims. Further
hearing in the matter is scheduled on August 20.
In its application, JSM has sought a review of the court
order of March 4 in which it had dismissed its plea for
demanding directions for SIT to further probe the Naroda
Advocate Amrish Patel representing JSM today contended
that since the court order in March, SIT has not submitted
any report or new evidence which could suggest that the
investigation was on in the case.
Patel sought a review of the March 4 order, with
directions for SIT to put before the court evidence showing
that investigation was still on in the case.
He further contended that SIT had not conducted
investigation properly in the Naroda Patiya case.
In March, the court had rejected JSM`s plea after the
Supreme Court-appointed SIT had submitted that further
investigation in the matter was on.
