Ahmedabad: The city unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence held two men and seized allegedly smuggled gold weighing around 52 kg worth around Rs 14 crore, officials said.
"DRI seized 52 kg of gold worth Rs 14 crore from two people identified as Surender Singh Dagar (39) of Delhi and Saurabh Sarjit Saharan (37) of Gurgaon," a DRI official said.
The DRI got specific inputs that the two were staying in room number-207 of Hotel Ashray Inn at the Ashram Road area of the city and they were in illegal possession of around 52 kg gold, the official said.
The DRI team carried out search at the hotel premises and recovered 52 gold bars which had marking of 'Kaloti Dubai' and 'Al-Etihad Gold' which were of .995 purity, he said.
Later, they were produced before in-charge magistrate M R Shukla, who sent them to judicial custody.
Earlier, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the city crime branch had arrested six people in connection with gold smuggling and seized 60 kg of gold worth Rs 16.50 crore from the Sardar Patel International Airport.
