Five of family killed in car-truck collision

 Five members of family, including two women, were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck near a village here this morning.

Ahmedabad: Five members of family, including two women, were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck near a village here this morning.

The accident occurred on Dhandhuka-Bagodara Highway near Dhingla village of Ahmedabad district when the car driver tried to overtake a vehicle, but in the process the car collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction, said Bagodara police sub-inspector D P Solanki.

The deceased were identified as Botad district's Nagalpur village residents Amrat Achodia (55), his wife Kamla Achodia (47), their son Tejendra Achodia (22), their relatives Gomti Arabhia (75) and Kanji Khambhalia (50), from Senthal village of Botad.

"These five family members came to Ahmedabad few days back for marriage related shopping and were returning to their village today morning. We learnt that Tejendra was driving the car," said Solanki.

"After crossing the bridge near Dhingla village, Tejendra suddenly overtook a vehicle and went straight into the path of truck coming from the opposite direction. Though the truck driver tried to save the car and applied brakes, the car eventually rammed into it, killing all five on the spot," he said.

Based on a complaint field by the truck driver, Bagodara police started further investigation and sent the bodies for post mortem.
