Four accused acquitted in Best Bakery case return

Fourteen people in the Best Bakery premises in the city were burnt alive on March 1, 2002 during the post-Godhra riots.

Vadodara: The four accused acquitted in the Best Bakery case on Sunday reunited with their family members here.

The four - Rajubhai Baria, Pankaj Gosai, Suresh alias Lalo Vasava and Shailesh Tadvi - refused to talk the media persons who were waiting outside their houses.

Their family members said they were happy on their acquittal in the case.
The Bombay High Court on July 9 had acquitted five accused, while upholding the conviction of four in the 2002 Best Bakery case.

However, there was no information available about Jagdish Rajput, who was also acquitted in the case.

In 2004, rapping the Gujarat government for its handling of the case in the light of acquittals, the Supreme Court ordered a retrial and transferred the case to Mumbai.
