Govt to provide land, fund for Haj house in Aurangabad

Maharashtra Government will provide land and fund for construction of a Haj house in the city, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said.

Aurangabad: Maharashtra Government will provide land and fund for construction of a Haj house in the city, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said on Friday.

Talking to reporters on a visit here, he said importance of Aurangabad was increasing day by day and hence the Government has decided to help in constructing the facility.

The proposed Haj house and a hall which will be part of it will be spread over two acres.

Work on the two buildings would start shortly and care would be taken to provide sufficient fund, Chavan said.

Speaking separately, the Chief Minister said the Government would give Rs 10 crore for establishment of a Science Centre at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) here in Central Maharashtra.

He was addressing a gathering at the university campus on the occasion of BAMU`s 55th anniversary. Earlier, he inaugurated the National University Students Skill Development Programme (NUSSD).

BAMU is the only institution in the state to be selected for this project, which has been launched in collaboration with Mumbai-based Tata Institute for Social Sciences (TISS) for improving various skills of students.

School Education Minister Rajendra Darda, Higher and Technical Education minister Rajesh Tope and Minister of State for Education DP Sawant were also present on the occasion.

The programme has been initiated with the objective to equip the youth with necessary skills so that they get employment or start their own venture, Chavan said.

Stating that quality education is the only criteria for surviving in a competitive world, he said universities should strive to enhance their teaching standards.
