Guj: Mob attacks police for raiding illegal abattoir; six hurt

Tension prevailed in Sansrod village in the district after an irate mob attacked a police team raiding an illegal slaughter house on Wednesday, police said.

Vadodara: Tension prevailed in Sansrod village in the district after an irate mob attacked a police team raiding an illegal slaughter house on Wednesday, police said.

Six persons-- four policemen and members of a local cow protection committee-- were injured when the mob pelted them with stones and also set a police vehicle on fire, they said.

While two persons received minor injuries, four others were admitted to SSG Hospital here for treatment.
"A SRP company has been deployed in Sansrod village after the assault on the police party and the members of the cow protection committee who were doing a panchnama after conducting a raid on the illegal abattoir," said SP Sandeep Singh.

Unconfirmed reports said four persons were arrested in this connection.

Senior officials have rushed to the village and the situation is under control.

Cow slaughter and even transporting of the animal for the purpose is banned in Gujarat and the offenders are liable to face seven years in jail.
