Valsad: One woman died and over 10,000
people have been affected due to flooding in low lying areas
of the city, following incessant and heavy rains in the last
36 hours, district officials said on Monday.
Low lying areas like Tariyawad, Chipwad and Hanuman
Bhagda are submerged under 8 to 10 feet of water coming in
from Auranga river, which is flowing above danger level, they
They added that Valsad district has received over 350mm
of rainfall in the last 36 hours.
A 60-year-old woman drowned when water gushed into her
house today early morning, police said.
According to one Babubhai Desai of Hanuman Bhagda area,
water started entering the houses in the wee hours today.
He added that there was no alert from district administration
yesterday regarding the floods.
The district administration is yet to begin rescue
operation in the areas, a resident claimed.
