Pathak (58) died of a massive heart attack while holidaying with his family at a beach resort in southern Thailand.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Pathak.
"Pathak was cremated with police honours at AMC crematorium near V S Hospital, Ellisbridge," in-charge DGP Pramod Kumar said.
Before cremation, his body, which was brought back late last night, was kept at IPS officers` mess here for the public to pay their last tributes.
An IPS officer of 1977 batch, he is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Pathak, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was appointed Director General of Police of Gujarat on February 27 this year. He was due to retire in February 2015.
