Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday
claimed that Gujarat has merged as the number one state in
agriculture growth in the country.
According to him, two factors have helped the state in
agriculture sector, irrigation through check dams and canals,
and use of technology in the farm sector.
Modi, launching the month-long annual Krishi Rath Yatra
from Navasari in south Gujarat, said the government has built
thousands of check dams to conserve water. It has led to rise
in ground water level in Saurashtra and other regions of the
state, he said.
Narmada water has now reached Saurashtra where irrigation
is provided through canals.
The government, through Krishi Rath Yatra, aims at
creating awareness among farmers regarding seeds, irrigation,
crop pattern and other aspects and how to use technology. The
Yatra will pass through all the 26 districts, he said.
